Driving to NYC pt. 2

The second jam that kept me sane through the traffic and the Jersey Tpk is the 1983 Bad Brains album Rock For Light. I found this cd deep in a closet full of swords and rock climbing gear at my parents house. Jersey sucks. Angry hardcore sprinkled with jammy reggae made everything a little sunnier.

I really can't say much about Bad Brains that hasn't been said, but anything Henry Rollins likes is probably good.

Driving to NYC pt. 1

Drove up to NYC (from MD) yesterday. Three CDs got me through the trip - which took at least 2 hours longer than usual. Traffic sucks. Music is good.

The first rock-out disc was the Crunk In Yo' System mix from Low Budget.

Super fresh mix from half of the Hollertronix crew. Good track selection, dope vibe, sharp mixing. All the right jams to get you hyphy. This mix got me amped like no amount coffee could have, and kept me going through the first bout with bumper-to-bumper. Most of the tracks were familiar, but a few gems were new to me. And of course, LowBee keeps it interesting on the deck wizardry. And that Still Tippin' (see downloads below, 'cause you need this) mix kept it so X-Mas - phenomenal.

New Bomb The Music Industry!

Newly transplanted, Athens, GA-based Bomb The Music Industry! has released 4 demos from recording sessions for their upcoming full-length. Like all their music the new tracks are available for free, however you have to brave MySpace to get them. I tried to d/l them but the MySpace music player is just too big a piece of shit. I won't provide a link to MySpace (fuck 'em) but I will provide a link to Bomb The Music Industry!'s entire back catalogue over at Quote Unqutoe Records. Clever readers will be able to click the MySpace link at their own peril from over there.

Eric Fino doesn't know about Slum Village. This is a problem. So what more fitting a way to end the week-long slackness than to share a phenomenal experience with a finomenal person?

I remember when Mike J. Bart (hollar @ you DJ Barticus) dragged me into the studio in high school and demanded I rock out to this new isht [sic] he found. Studio = awesome audio gear = music sounds good. The 'new isht' was Slum Village, post J-88, on the Fantastic Volume 2 tip, pre-seperation from Jay Dilla (RIP). Needless to say, I fell in love. I had already been flirting with hip-hop at that point, but was still whetting my apetite. This 'isht' was the clincher. No words are worthwhile. I'd say it's some of the best sample-based music ever.
